The Swiss Society for Folklore , founded in 1896, researches Swiss everyday life of the past and present in its multifaceted manifestations and is committed to communicating these findings to professionals and lay people alike. In this way, the Society contributes to the preservation and transmission of an "intangible cultural heritage" whose importance in cultural policy is now generally recognised.

The correspondence journal Schweizer Volkskunde was first published in 1911, initially only in German. Since 1943, the Society has also published a French edition, in which Italian contributions have also been published since 1968. In 1995, the two editions merged to form Schweizer Volkskunde = Folklore suisse = Folclore svizzero. In 2019, the printed edition was discontinued. Since then, the Society has published the online magazine das bulletin. For everyday and popular life.
